INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
SUBMISSION The original manuscript with original illustrations, line drawings, tables should be submitted to the editor of the relevant chapter via e-mail. Figures reproduced from other published sources require written permission from the authors and copyright holders.
The editor of each chapter must submit the revised version of the chapter to the Editor-in-Chief (Peter Bösze, MD. bosze@eagc.eu). In many chapters the Editor-in-Chief is also the editor of the chapter, consequently the articles should be submitted to him.
RESPONSIBILITY Articles and any other material published in the CME Journal of Gynecologic Oncology represent the opinions of the author(s) and should not be construed to reflect the opinions of the Editors or the Publisher. Statements and views expressed in the "Chapter Editor's introduction and conclusions" are those of the chapter editor and not necessarily those of the authors of the papers within the chapter.
Neither the NOK Press nor the editors can be held liable for errors or for any consequences arising from the use of information, including advertisements, contained in this journal.
PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT The CME Journal of Gynecologic Oncology guidelines are based on instructions set forth in the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (Ann Intern Med 1988; 108:258-265). However, articles will be edited according to the individual style of the Journal.
TITLE PAGE The title page should contain all authors’ first, middle and last names, the article title, place (Department, Institutions) of the author(s), a short running head, and the complete mailing address, including phone, fax and e-mail, of the chief-author. These address details will be printed as Address correspondence to:.
PAGE 2 should contain a short ABSTRACT followed by 3 to 4 key words. The ABSTRACT is invariably required for citation purposes.
TEXT In principle, the structure of the text is up to the author(s). However, the text should be divided into sub-divisions which should all have headings, starting with INTRODUCTION. All levels of heading (sub-headings) should be clearly indicated. The editor of the chapter may give additional recommendations that should be conformed. All articles other than the Chapter Editor’s introduction/conclusions should contain REFERENCES. The Chapter Editor’s introduction/conclusions, however, may also contain references. Pages should be numbered in succession, the title page being page one.
REFERENCES In the text, the cited papers should be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text by Arabic numerals in brackets (1), (2-5), and not in alphabetic order. The author(s) name in the text is written in italics followed by the number in brackets, e.g. Maggino (2), Onnis and Gorins (4), de Oliveira et al. (8). When the names of the authors are not mentioned, the citation number is stated at end of the sentence before the full stop. If it is related to a specific part of the sentence, it should be placed after that part. The Arabic numeral should be written after the full stop only when it refers to the whole paragraph. Personal communications should be cited as such in the text, without numbering. Papers cited in tables and figures should also be numbered the same way as in the text.
References are listed in a separate section under the sub-heading of REFERENCES. Single word journal titles should be spelled out, all others should be abbreviated according to the Index Medicus. Citations should be written in Vancouver style, as illustrated in the following examples:
- JOURNAL ARTICLE AND SUPPLEMENT Monaghan JM. The role of surgery in the management of granulosa cell tumours of the ovary. CME J Gynecol Oncol 1996;1:116.

- CHAPTER IN A BOOK Schwartz PE, Naftolin F. Hormone therapy. In Berek JS, Hacker NF, eds. Practical Gynecologic Oncology. 2nd edn. Baltimore, Williams and Wilkins, 1994:613.
References of Abstracts, Communications, Editorials and Letters to the Editors should be numbered and cited as such in the REFERENCES. Papers in press should be listed in full followed by 200_; in press.
All authors may be listed, alternatively, at least three followed by "et al." Accuracy of the references is the responsibility of the author(s).
TABLES In the text, "tables" are written in italics and should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals in italics in the order they appear in the text, e.g. (Table 1), ...summarized in Table 1., or Table 1. shows. They should be typed on separate pages and accompanied by a short appropriate caption, including number and title, etc. Give each column a heading. Horizontal lines are required above and below the headings and at the bottom of the table. Do not use vertical lines or other horizontal lines. Units of measure should be indicated in brackets in the heading of each column and should be used consistent. All abbreviations should be identified in footnotes. Papers cited in tables should be written and numbered as in the text and listed in full in the REFERENCES. E.g. Marchetti et al. (8) and not Marchetti 1988.
FIGURES In the text, illustrations and line drawings should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals with italic letters in order of appearance in the text, e.g. (Figure 1), ...shown in Figure 1., or Figure 1. illustrates. Line drawings should be in black ink on a white background or clear glossy prints, with lettering of high standard and large enough to be legible when reduced. Color or black-and-white photographic prints must be glossy and provide sharp contrast. Color illustrations are accepted when appropriate. Indicate the author's last name, figure number and the "top" with an arrow on the back of each illustration or on a label affixed to the back of each figure. Never use label on color figures and never use ink on front or back of any figures. Captions should be on a separate page and should include the figure number and a brief description of the illustration. Explain all symbols used in the illustration. Scale bars (when appropriate) should be provided on the photographs.
UNITS All measurements should be in metric units.
ABBREVIATIONS Accepted forms of abbreviations should be used. They should be written in full at the first mention in the text. Define abbreviations for a term only when used subsequently.
SPELLING Both American and English spelling is accepted. Either spelling should be used consistently throughout the text.
